The Glass Grimoire According to Plato

I struggled with whether or not to share the allegory of Plato’s cave up front or to let it unfold over time. But the way I see it, revealing the story in this serialized online format opens up an opportunity for engagement and discussion.

Without being too detailed about the parallels between Andy’s journey (and the reader’s) and the prisoner’s journey in Plato’s story, I feel that sharing a concise video articulating Plato’s allegory will enhance the experience of the story being told here.

By now it should be obvious that Andy’s experience is a mystical study about the fundamental questions of reality. In particular, it is a criticism of Western society’s enslavement to broader conceptual constructs such as religions, political parties, races, and countries, but also with more refined, localized fabrications and impositions on reality we have all but ceased to question:  conceptualizations like money, the distinct self, mathematics, language, and even life and death.

Rock and roll was at its roots a challenge to the status quo and a thumbing of the nose to blind adherence to convention. This book, just like Plato’s cave is an attempt to roll a rock out of the way, offering the prospect of walking out into the light and staying there.

This is only the first time you will run into Plato on our epic journey through the multiverse. He pops up again as the only human to have ever visited Atlantis (which he wrote about in detail in his work the Timaeus). I say this because I feel it it’s important to illuminate the fact that he wasn’t some stodgy stuffed shirt.

He rocked as hard as any who’ve come since.

I hope the understanding of Plato’s allegory of the cave sticks with you as we move out from the confines of our limited Earther perspective on Sanctuary. And I hope it intensifies your enjoyment of the story.

By all means, share and discuss this allegory and the story of Andy; because what becomes clearer and clearer on every step of the mystic’s journey, is the truth that, in the end, the only light that shines upon the reality we all come to know…

… is the light that shines from our interactions with each other!
